Launched in 1989, Télévie celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2013. These years have proved extremely productive and this massive charitable operation aimed at raising funds for research against leukaemia and cancer in general has already collected more than 1,700 million euros.
Organised each year by RTL Belgium, with profits going to the Scientific Research Funds (F.R.S.-FNRS), the Télévie has paid for the work of 1,682 researchers and financed 1,703 projects and hundreds of international publications.
The Télévie has also enabled some decisive medical advances, the two most spectacular of which are the development of the registry of bone marrow donors, which boasts 55,000 names today, and the creation of a public bank of umbilical cord blood, a great source of stem cells that now has more than 10,000 samples.
Each week, we end the fund-raiser during a closing evening attended by researchers, artists, comedians and television presenters.
